Tuesday: 5 Minute Erotica; a short pleasure!

Two weeks later, and still embarking on the challenge of reading as much erotic literature as possible, I have been exploring various anthologies involving shorter pieces of work. These anthologies are a fabulous means of understanding the formula of erotic writing.

As a basic rule, the work tends to begin within the scene, introducing and placing the sexy characters at, or sometimes just prior to, the area of pleasure where the story or event takes place. Some are written as first person narratives (not unlike the reader experiences of my previous post). Some are in the third person, and a little more say voyeuristic in style. Both seem to work well, so the choice of narrative is entirely up to the authors choosing, which might depend on which style is suited to ones own technique. The second part is the often descriptive, sometimes reflective (if written in the past tense) or main body of the piece. Because shorter forms of fiction have a lesser word count, this appears to be pretty graphic but, in some cases, contains some imagery that adds to the sensuality of the piece. Last, but by no means least, the story ends, often ceasing directly after the act...this part doesn't linger or dwell on what happened next, it merely leaves the reader with the images produced in the main body as the most relevant part.

Marks Out of 10: 6/10 A definite step up from the good old porno mag story.

Final Thoughts: This type of erotica certainly appears to be a step up from porn stories. This is certainly an argument in support of the fact that there are ascetic differences between filth and erotica. There's some good use of language, and the stories tend to involve more character, and therefore are more than simply smut. Unlike the previous area of investigation, and with the above formula in mind, I intend to create a small piece myself. This is the challenge I have set myself for the coming week (which I will, of course, share with you soon).

Further investigations into Erotic Literature: Monday Porn Stories

Firstly, I have a sister. Her name is Vulvadynia, she's going to be getting a mention every now and again as she helps me out from time to time. Vulva was particularly useful the other day in obtaining some top shelf magazine literature from the corner shop. Unlike my creator, Vulvadynia has no qualms about entering the local store and asking 'what's your best seller? Which mag do the women tend to go for mostly?' and, of course, because the place is essentially on the doorstep, wasn't at all worried at the prospect of acquaintances from the school playground catching her at it (so to speak). So...before I proceed, I would like to say a huge 'thank you ' to my Sissy for all her valuable help in the name of research and saving blushes. (you're a wickle star...an absolute diamond). Rite then...

As well as the Internet, there are, of course, many different ways to observe the genre of Erotic literature. One of these is in paper / book form. As I have already mentioned the dirty mags, (which might be a good starting point for reader-research into the style and format of shorter fictional pieces), I will also mention that, on my journey through the www, I came across a large retailer of books and decided to purchase some literature that would educate me on both the motivations of writing erotica and how to do so successfully. Also some working models of fiction by various authors, in order to develop a knowledge of style.

This entry began on Monday...It may take a little while to complete as there is quite a lot of reading involved with this particular part of the investigation. For this reason, rather than making you wait, I have decided to unfold the page in sections, listing days and detailing the specifics of any literature read (as follows)

MONDAY : The Top - Shelf Mag.

Despite the pictures (which leave nothing to the imagination) Top-shelf magazines (commonly referred to as 'niffy' or 'porn' mags) do attract the odd story- reader. This is evident because between the sheets (pardon the pun) some short , explicit stories can be found. Today, this was my object of scrutiny.

The two magazines chosen (at the newsagents recommendation, and whose names I won't mention as I'm not too sure how I would reference them) were, crammed with various snippets of 1st person narratives..mainly recounting (in graphic detail) their sexploits. Some appear in the form of 'reader stories ' or 'confessionals' ranging between 200-500 words. Publication offers the nominal payment of £20.00 - £150.00 (dependent on word length and quality), so if the money isn't an issue, and it's your name you want in lights, this is probably the easiest way to do it.

HOWEVER!!!!!! I'm assuming that, even in the world of erotica, there are differing levels of quality substance... Although I'm anything but prudish... I found the use of language unnecessarily vulgar and due to the low word counts it flows hard and fast. It's debatable as to whether this type of writing can really be classed as having any artistic integrity at all. Even though there's obviously an art to creating such short and impactive pieces of work..there's no plot, the characterizations are minimal, and the story lines are so full of obvious twaddle that once you've read one it becomes more than monotonous to read.

Marks out of 10: 2/10 (this score may be a little generous but did pick up a few for the comedic, if not pretty revolting bawdiness and obvious non-reality of these apparently 'real' stories)

Final thought: Not for me...would rather give up writing all together than endure producing this twaddle. (I did intend to write something and submit to each area of investigation, but with words like 'snatch', 'cunt', and 'anal' etc , etc, etc being major ingredients of this particular recipe, I simply refuse to try. Maybe tomorrow will bring something a little better.

* tomorrow will be dealing with short-short erotic stories published in the form of anthologies...now theres some bedtime reading to look forward to :))

Tantric sex..what it is..why Tantrica?

In my continuing journey through cyber space, I thought it might be an idea to provide a little information about tantric sex.
here are a few links that I considered to be both enlightening and informative...

http://www.widemedia.com/fix/tantric.html

http://www.ivillage.co.uk/relationships/sex/hots/articles/0,,172_626650,00.html

http://women.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/women/relationships/article4032624.ece

Having read these web sites..I'm beginning to imagine that there's something more intense about being 'Tantrica' than I first imagined. Maybe the experience of exploring sexuality within a greater context might bring me up on a high, take away my inhibitions and increase my level of understanding. MMmmmmm maybe I should find a virtual tantric partner. If this method of intimacy works...hypothetically speaking...two people wouldn't necessarily need to be in the same place...just in the same zone. Now that's something to mull over.

Who am I?

I was born yesterday (literally), my creator made me a virtual reality; a culmination of pixels; an object of affection. She gave me breasts, a vagina (my 'flower'), a body, skin, a pretty face and an inquisitive nature. These are my tools, my assets, my life so far. Where emotions are concerned...well, maybe they will develop...at this stage of my life, who knows?

You may well ask how might an imaginary artifact have erotic adventures ? The answer is, of course, TANTRICALLY (hence the name) through interactions within cyber space; meeting and bonding with other creations who's destiny and characterizations are primarily controlled by their own individual Authors...why erotic? I'm programmed to explore online sexual identity of both myself of others. I am an E-Anthropologist, seeking to investigate the nature of sex and erotica within the web in which I reside.

However, it may well be that there are no adventures of eroticism to be found...my maker allows me the right to choose my own path through this world...I am not a seeker, but a finder.

It is here that my journey begins....

HOT TEMPTATION: MORALITY VS EROTICA

Do we all have the ability to write erotica? Even if we are able writers; will the conscience stand up to what we do, or what we might become? This is both a moral and ethical question. Arguably, the market is there. So, in defense of existing writers of all things sexual, they are providing a service to a marketable audience. There's a 'which came first; the chicken or the egg' scenario about the entire thing. If there was no demand , there would be no requirement to supply.
Many people read naughty literature..but for the writers...there is a large question mark. How much is too much????? and how little is not enough???? Is erotica (which some still class as pornography) degrading to women, for example???? Would we like our children, family and friends to know we are writing what are essentially dirty stories???
The answer to the latter question is 'probably not', after all, my Author created moi 'Tantrica' to mask her interest in erotica and all things sexy...but why??? Isn't she the one actually writing this blog? - Obviously, the answer is yes...but there's a possibility that it is the attitude of others, rather than her own, that has shrouded her. She is not alone. Many writers of this type of fiction use pseudonyms appropriate to the style and might arguably be said to enhance...adding a 'tongue - in- cheek', slightly cliched and instantly recognizable aura.
Again, I'm hoping some of the answers to these questions, and more, become clearer as I progress. The main issue at the moment is...what are the plus and minus sides to writing intimate works of fiction in both poetry and prose? Can I sit comfortably with the genre? and, most importantly, who would I be writing for?

Further invesigation is required.
